Why I Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

I think something’s wrong with me maybe. No, for sure. I don’t watch games, read the papers, or particularly enjoy small talk. And, as for human debacles…well. I just don’t have time for that junk anymore. I find prejudice/entitlement/self-righteousness disgusting. If you’re around me much, you’ll hear me say things like, “what does it matter, we’ll all be eatin’ by the same worms one day anyway (thanks Randi!).” I think maybe it was the streets that dulled my senses about the insignificant things of life…I’m really not sure. Maybe I’m certifiable, you be the judge (really…I don’t mind), a lot of people have decided this for me.

Whatever you want to call it or wherever it comes from, I just can’t help but think about how the small stuff accumulates to pull our awareness off the most significant things in our lives: family, friends, God, helping others…etc.

I chase the moments that continuously catch my passion on fire. I’ve heard these times referred to as thin spaces. Referring to when the space between us and God is thin. Like having a baby, getting married, achieving the unachievable, surviving cancer, etc. They close the gap between us and God—not a bad place to be if you ask me.

I don’t have anything clever to say here. Other than that I really don’t care much for the small stuff anymore. It just doesn’t seem to bring me much satisfaction anymore…

How about you? Do you have anything you love so much that it eclipses your taste for the small stuff?
